How Gardenzzz Delivers

First off - greetings to all the new people we met at the Landscape Ontario Congress (LOC). It was great to meet and hear from all of you. And it was quite a crowd! LOC enjoyed record attendance this year (15,657 attendees) over three days from January 8-10. The Gardenzzz booth team really got to listen to some of your thoughts and impressions while explaining our business model and benefits. Your views and input were both insightful and helpful and we are really excited about working with this hardworking and sensible group of people who share our ideals!
Our vision is to help you overcome the barriers that prevent you from providing your Canadian market from having access to the huge range of wonderful products that are available abroad. The small and geographically spread-out nature of the Canadian market; the restrictions manufacturers place on quantities; and the cost of shipping across long distances have all contributed to the development of the existing distribution model. Traditional distributors import container-load quantities of products to keep shipping costs low, but this restricts the number of different items and suppliers that can be carried. In addition, holding inventory leads to the need to discount prices in order to clear out stock each year, driving prices down and squeezing margins for all. Finally, the selection of products to import is in the hands of the distributors rather than your hands, even though you, as a retailer or trade pro, are closest to the end-user.
To address all of that, Gardenzzz uses a new model of distribution – one that puts the decision-making in YOUR hands. We are using the power of the internet and people’s increasing familiarity with online shopping to make a broad selection of quality items available for browsing. The complete product ranges of 30 different suppliers are currently available at Gardenzzz.com, with more being added regularly. But how to overcome the obstacles listed above? A creative and flexible approach to shipping and product distribution is required.Gardenzzz is working on the shipping issue from both ends – abroad and in Canada. Abroad, we work with manufacturers and freight forwarders to find ways to combine shipments originating in the same geographic area. For example, Gold Leaf Gloves, Wildlife World and Harrod Horticultural are all based in the UK. If orders to these three suppliers can be placed in the same timeframe, they can be shipped together in the same container, reducing the costs for all. On arrival in Canada, the shipment can be broken down and repackaged for forwarding to customers. For example, a garden centre might receive a mixture of products from each of the three suppliers. Orders from Canadian customers to the same manufacturer can also be grouped together to meet minimums and optimize shipping costs.
Making this work requires a lot of coordination and planning. Gardenzzz has developed tools and customer service strategies to facilitate the process. One key element will be planned ordering events, such as that outlined in the current promotion, that ask customers to consider ordering from a particular manufacturer(s), by a fixed date, to benefit from a combined order and reduced shipping costs.
